November Crusaders

From the Principal

In the Wednesday Packet , please find the latest totals for the Generation to Generation Capital Campaign. The total pledged has now exceeded two million dollars. That is a fine milestone. Also attached is a list of the families and individuals in the parish and in the school who have made pledges. A huge thank you goes out to those who have been so generous in their support. School parents should be aware that the classroom building is central to the future of the school and the multi-purpose building will provide the students with a new cafeteria and a great facility for meetings and numerous student activities. Parents should also know that the final plans for the building to be located by the library have been completed by the architect and the plans will be submitted to the Diocese of Baton Rouge for final approval shortly. That building will be available in the fall of 2008 for use by the school.

Many of the parents have at this point have not been personally contacted. Many have. If you have not been contacted at this point, please know that you will be. The church parishioners have been most generous with the campaign. The first project will be the classroom building and the plan is to have that building open in time for the 2009-2010 school year. The timing of construction of the multi-purpose facility will depend on the generosity of all those involved in the parish and school. The school is in need of a new cafeteria if it is to grow and that new facility will also allow us to do so many activities that are impossible with the present facilities. Please support the drive knowing the primary beneficiaries your generosity will be the children.

Mother/Daughter Volleyball Game

Uniform Regulations

Cooler weather has now set upon us. Please be reminded that students may only wear SJS sweatshirts in the classrooms.

Our uniform vendor, The Old School in Hammond, carries both the crew neck and the hooded sweatshirts with the correct SJS logo on them. Our Baton Rouge vendor, Inka’s Sc’oolWear, carries the correct crew neck sweatshirt. Every student should have an SJS sweatshirt for classroom wear in cool weather.

The Christmas break is a perfect time to check skirt lengths for the girls. Some are growing taller and need to have the hems let out a little during this time.

Boys should check the haircut regulations and be neat, trim, and in compliance everyday.

Advent Activities

As a traditional part of our Christmas preparations and in the true Christmas spirit, students in all grades will participate in Advent Projects designed to help those less fortunate than themselves.

Students in grades preK-4 are asked to bring a new unwrapped nonviolent toy to school on or before December 7. These toys will be donated to the Community Santa Bear project.

Students in grades 5-8 are asked to bring in cash donations which will be donated to cancer research. Each class has been challenged to raise $100. Checks should be made payable to St. Joseph School. The school will then issue one check to Cancer Research. Deadline for donations is Friday, December 7. This project is a grass-roots idea brought to the school’s attention by an SJS student. Please help make this drive a success.
