August Crusaders

AUGUST CRUSADERS
Emily Buddy (Grade 8) and Thomas Casey (Grade 2)

From the Principal

Dear Parents,

I know the stress of the storm has been very difficult on everyone.
It seems likely now that Ike will not visit us.

Please remember in your prayers those who have suffered from the storm.

The only schools open in the Diocese of Baton Rouge Monday were the four schools in Tangipahoa Parish as families throughout the diocese endure.

In the state, the southern parishes of Terrebonne and Lafourche were most severely affected.
We should also be aware of the devastation that took place in the Caribbean.

Although difficult for most of us, the inconvenience of being without electricity was tolerated and I am sure most of us are very thankful to have been spared.

I was most pleased to greet a full house yesterday with only a couple of students absent.

I ask parents to be diligent in having the students at school and on time. Even though we have been in school only a few weeks, there has been improvement in attendance and fewer students tardy. Please continue the good work.

— Dr. Gerard Toups

If you would like to change or add numbers to our Parent Broadcast System, please contact Paula in the office at 985-386-6421.

Magazine Sale

Due to the storm, the Magazine Sale has been extended.
Orders are now due to the office on Thursday, September 11.
Please join with other parents and students to make sure this fund raiser is a success!
Nothing is easier than ordering or renewing magazines you would read anyway.
The school makes a generous profit from all sales and renewals.
Please send in the orders! SJS needs you!

Club News

LITERARY CLUB
A flyer is attached to today’s Crusader Connection inviting students in Grades 5-8 to join St. Joseph’s Literary Club.
The Literary Club conducts student writing and art contests during the year.
The best entries will be included in the club’s magazine called Imagine! which will be published in May.
Members of the club choose and type the entries and plan the magazine’s layout.
Eighth Grader Faith Allen is this year’s editor. Other officers will be elected during September.

4-H CLUB
St. Joseph School is asking for a parent volunteer or volunteers to head up the school’s 4-H Club.
Volunteers need to be familiar with the 4-H program (or willing to learn!) and must either have or be willing to obtain the Child Protection clearance.
Anyone interested in becoming the school’s 4-H Club leader should contact the school office at 985-386-6421.

STUDENT COUNCIL
Student Council is collecting labels from Campbell’s products as well as BoxTops for Education, and Community Coffee coupons.
This is an on-going project, so labels and coupons can be turned into the office at any time during the school

Cafeteria Updates

If your child/children bring their lunch to school, please make sure they have everything that is needed to eat their bag lunch: eating utensils, napkins, any condiments such as ketchup, mayonnaise, salt, pepper, etc.

No menu is currently available for the cafeteria due to the storm. As soon a menu is ready, it will be sent home.
