October Crusaders of the Month

Christine Palmisano (8th) and Peyton LeSaicherre (2nd)

From the Principal

Dear Parents,

Yesterday the school held a Veterans Day program. Mrs. Brennan planned and executed the celebration and did a masterful job. Students sang the Star Spangled Banner accompanied on the trumpet by Mr. Lanius, read from the Declaration of Independence, gave the history Veterans Day, and finally paid close attention as Taps were played for those that rendered the ultimate sacrifice. The Scouts were well represented and supplied the Color Guard. You should ask your children for their reflections on the occasion.

Friday is Grandparents’ Day. We will welcome Grandparents to school so they can see where their grandchildren attend. The students always enjoy this day. The day will begin with a Prayer Service at 1:00 and be followed by a program in the gym.

It is not too early to mention to you plans for next year. It is anticipated that we will double classes in second and fourth grade for the coming school year. That means there should be a number of openings next school year in pre-K through fourth grade. Please begin to think of families who might wish to attend St. Joseph for the next school year. Holidays are right around the corner and as soon as school resumes after the Christmas break, preparation for the new school year will begin.
Progress on the demolition of the convent continues and the diocese is expected to give final approval to proceed with the new classroom building tomorrow. A final presentation is made after the bid has been accepted locally to the Building Commission of the Diocese in Baton Rouge. That is expected to be a formality. Work should then begin.

Finally, please keep in your prayers the Albin family. Mrs. Albin passed away Monday afternoon after a lengthy illness. Her son Josh is in third grade at St. Joseph.

—Dr. Gerard Toups
