Psalm 62:2-3,6-7, 9

R. Lord, you give back to everyone according to his works.

Only in God is my soul at rest;
from him comes my salvation.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
my stronghold; I shall not be disturbed at all.

R. Lord, you give back to everyone according to his works.

Only in God be at rest, my soul,
for from him comes my hope.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
my stronghold; I shall not be disturbed.

R. Lord, you give back to everyone according to his works.

Trust in him at all times, O my people!
Pour out your hearts before him;
God is our refuge!

R. Lord, you give back to everyone according to his works.

From the Principal

Dear Parents:

Shortly you will be receiving a packet in the mail that contains some very important material regarding St. Joseph School, some state tax initiatives that have been beneficial to families in Catholic schools, and the effort we are making to keep St. Joseph as affordable as possible. I ask that you read the material carefully and support our efforts. The cost of education will continue to rise. The cost of materials, especially technology, is progressively becoming more expensive. In addition, the school needs capital improvements. As I have promised in the past, the funds that we have will be used to make the academic program stronger and improve the environment where the students work and play. Please do all you can to help.

Today Mr. Tommy and Mr. Joe are working to upgrade the playground. A new layer of bark is being spread and the work will make the playground more serviceable and more attractive. The cost of the materials is $5,000. Work continues to progress on the renovation of the classroom on the first floor. The walls have been covered in sheetrock and painted, the ceilings are being dropped, new lighting installed, and the air conditioning ducts are being redirected for better efficiency. We will move a class into that room and began renovation of another room when that job is completed.

Sister Joseph Charles is a principal of a struggling Catholic school in Baton Rouge. The school is down to less than a hundred students and serves the African American community in the area. She is a friend from New Orleans. She asked if I could make a request from our parents for books their children had outgrown, she would like to distribute them to her students. If you have any around, send them to the office, and I will bring them to her in Baton Rouge.

The first nine weeks is just about over, and we have had a very productive quarter. Teachers are working hard, students are engaged, and the cooperation we have had from all is most important.

Attorney General Presentation

The Office of the Attorney General for the State of Louisiana will be on campus Thursday, October 13, to make presentations to both students and parents.

The student presentation will be for grades 6-7-8. It will be held during the school day.

The parent presentation will be at 7:00 p.m. in the school gym. No one under the age of 18 will be allowed at the parent presentation. The program will be given by the AG's high tech crime unit. It will cover internet safety in the areas of child predators, sexting, and other related topics. The presentation will also discuss how FaceBook and other social media are sometimes used in ways which endanger our children.

We hope a large number of our parents turn out to hear this important presentation on such a pertinent topic.

Saints Tickets

We at St. Joseph have been given an exciting opportunity to raffle off two Saints - Club Level - Monday Night Football tickets!

We are asking that our student body get involved by selling ten raffle tickets at $5 each. Of course there will be exciting prizes for the top individual sellers and the classes that sell the most.

The raffle tickets were sent home October 5.

The prizes for the top three sellers are:

1st place - 8x10 autographed picture of Drew Brees

Living Rosary

To honor Our Blessed Mother during October, the month of the Holy Rosary, students at St. Joseph School gathered in the church to pray a Living Rosary. Eighth grade students led the prayers while students from other grades stood in place of the beads. Pictured with the statue of the Blessed Virgin are Jarett Jordan, left, and James Danley.

Third Grade Police Dogs

Deputies from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit visited with third grade students last week as an extension of their reading story, "Officer Mike and Arrow".

The deputies detailed information about the dogs and their police work and answered students' questions. The deputies also demonstrated how their dogs work and respond to commands.
