Psalm 46:2-3, 5-6, 8-9

R. The waters of the river gladden the city of God, the holy dwelling of the Most High!

God is our refuge and our strength,
an ever-present help in distress.
Therefore, we fear not, though the earth be shaken
and mountains plunge into the depths of the sea.

R. The waters of the river gladden the city of God, the holy dwelling of the Most High!

There is a stream whose runlets gladden the city of God,
the holy dwelling of the Most High.
God is in its midst; it shall not be disturbed;
God will help it at the break of dawn.

R. The waters of the river gladden the city of God, the holy dwelling of the Most High!

The LORD of hosts is with us;
our stronghold is the God of Jacob.
Come! behold the deeds of the LORD,
the astounding things he has wrought on earth.

R. The waters of the river gladden the city of God, the holy dwelling of the Most High!

From the Principal

Dear Parents,

Tomorrow is the date the Home and School is requesting that parents return the Raffle Tickets to the Giants-Saints game. This is a fundraiser that was proposed by parents and run by parents for the benefit of the school. My understanding is that well over 1,000 tickets have already been sold with an income thus far of over $5000. There is great hope that many of the students will turn in ticket sales tomorrow. The cost of the raffle has been minimal, and every ticket sold at this point will net the school the full $5.00 of income.

Now is the time of year that the school begins to plan for next school year. Again the school is reliant on parents to let neighbors, friends, and relatives know about St. Joseph. More that any advertisement in a newspaper or message for that matter from any other source, a parent speaking to a prospective parent is the most effective manner for the school to recruit new students. The school will provide several means for parents to forward to us names and addresses of parents of prospective parents who might be interested in the school. Mrs. Little will provide a form to fill out on the school’s web page. A parent can simply call Mrs. Waddell, the school receptionist, and give her the information, and, as the date draws nearer, a form will be sent home that can be returned to school. The school will simply forward to parents an invitation to the Open House on February 27th. No one will ever need to know how their names were selected to receive the invitation.

The students look forward with great anticipation to Grandparent’s Day on Friday. The weather looks to be ideal when they arrive after lunch.

Book Fair Dress-up Day

Our school library and our Student Council are co-sponsoring a fun event in conjunction with the fall book fair.

For the donation of $1, students in Grades 1-4 will be allowed to dress as their favorite alien or space creature. This event goes along with the book fair them "To the Book Fair and Beyond! Reading Is out of this World!".

This special day will take place on Wednesday, November 16. Students who are participating should bring $1 to school that day and give it to their homeroom teacher.

All money collected will be given back to the community in some way. Pleae note that students will have a regular school day, so the costumes should be comfortable and should not interfere with usual daily activities of the classroom. Also, no masks may be worn.

Students who are not in costume should wear their regular school uniforms.

Grandparents' Day

Calling all Grandparents!

Grandparents of students at St. Joseph School are invited to our annual Grandparents' Day on Friday, November 11, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the church.

After a short prayer service, grandparents will be able to tour the school, watch programs, take pictures, visit the book fair, and a variety of activities with their grandchildren.

Please mark your calendars for this most important day!

Family Movie Night

Family Movie Night will be held on Friday, November 11, in the school gym.

Doors will open at 7:00. The movie starts promptly at 7:30.

The feature will be Cars II.

This is a night for your entire family. Free popcorn and free drinks will be available.

A huge inflatable screen will be set up on the stage so that easy viewing may be had by all.

Bring your blankets, pillows, lawn charis, etc.

All children must have an adult with them. This event is designed for your family to spend a free night of entertainment with other St. Joseph families. We hope to have a large crowd there.

This event is sponsored by St. Joseph School Home and School Association.

Jr. Beta Club Officers

The recently-elected Jr. Beta Club officers at St. Joseph School are (back row, left to right) Scott Dufreche, president, and Kitch Taylor, treasurer . Seated from left are Lauren McKneely, secretary; Lauren Hebert, vice president; and Katelyn McKneely, historian.

Beta Club Contest

Beta Club is sponsoring the cutest baby picture contest!

Teachers were invited to bring in their baby pictures, and next week students will be voting on which picture is the cutest.

All you have to do is bring some change and put it in the bucket of the snapshot you think is best.

All the change will be donated to the One for Books Fundraiser that will allow St. Francis Xavier School to purchase brand new books from our Book Fair.  Scholastic will also match the money to give books to Toys for Tots.

The contest will start Monday, November 14 and will continue through Thursday, November 17.  Don't forget to bring your change!

Father/Daughter Dance

Make your reservations now for the annual Father/Daughter Dance to be held on Friday, November 18.

All dads are invited to come and enjoy a night out with their little girl. The theme will be Country/Wester wear with prizes for the best-dressed couple.

There will be music, dancing, food, and drink. The opportunity for pictures will also be available. All grades are welcome.

The dance will be held at the school gym from 7:00-9:00.

The Early Bird Price is $20. This admits one dad and one daughter. Each additional dad/daughter is $5.

At the door the price rises to $30 and $5 for each additional dad/daughter

Special circumstances permit another male figure in student’s life. This may include grandfather, uncle, etc.

The reservation form was sent home today. It can also be obtained by clicking on reservation form.

Saints Tickets

It's almost time for our drawing for the Saints tickets!

We need all tickets (sold and unsold) to come into the school office before the end of the week. Receipts so far look like it's been a fantastic fundraiser. Many thanks to all of our parents who've "gotten the word out" and sold tickets to everyone.

Tickets need to come into the office now so that winners can be determined for which students sold the most tickets.

Those winners, as well as the BIG PRIZE WINNER of the club level tickets for the Saints/Giants game, will be announced at Mass on Friday, November 18.

Thanksgiving Food Baskets

SJS Student Council is sponsoring a food drive to help the less fortunate in our community this Thanksgiving.

This food drive will take place from Monday, November 14, through Friday, November 18.

All food donations will be given to the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry at St. Joseph Church.

Boxes labeled with each grade level will be place din the gym. Students may drop off their donations when they arrive at school in the morning.

Listed below are the categories that each grade level is being asked to bring if possible:

PreK & K - cake mix, brownie mix, muffin mix, biscuit mix, cornbread mix, etc.

1st Grade - breakfast cereal, grits, oatmeal, etc.

2nd Grade - canned fruit

3rd Grade - juice, condensed or evaporated milk, tea bags

4th Grade - canned soup, soup mix, gravy mix, canned fish or meat, etc.

5th Grade - rice, pasta, dry beans, instant potatoes, etc.

6th Grade - canned vegetables

7th Grade - sugar, flour, cornmeal, other baking ingredients

8th Grade - canned fruit or vegetables.

Each grade has been asked to bring food from a certain category so that a variety of items will be donated. If you would like to donate food items that do not fall into your child's designated category, that is absolutely okay.

Please make sure that all donated food is non-perishable.

We thank you in advance for your generosity. May God continue to bless you and your families.
