Psalm 27

R. The Lord is my light and my salvation.

The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom should I fear?
The LORD is my life's refuge;
of whom should I be afraid?

R. The Lord is my light and my salvation.

One thing I ask of the LORD;
this I seek:
To dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
That I may gaze on the loveliness of the LORD
and contemplate his temple.

R. The Lord is my light and my salvation.

I believe that I shall see the bounty of the LORD
in the land of the living.
Wait for the LORD with courage;
be stouthearted, and wait for the LORD.

R. The Lord is my light and my salvation.

Grandparents' Day - Friday, November 9

Please invite grandparents to come visit at SJS on Friday, November 9.

Grandparents are to meet in the church at 1:00 for a short prayer service and directions. They will receive maps to classrooms where they may meet their grandchildren.

Grandparents must sign out their grandchildren in order to take them from the classrooms.

After signing out grandchildren, families may go to any of the following stations:

A. photo stations in the gym
B. book fair in the library
C. book fair gift certificate stations
D. cookies and juice in the cafeteria
E. tour the school and playground with grandchildren

Picture packets for Grandparents' Day were sent home with students last week.

Once the students are signed out by the grandparents, they are no longer our responsibility and are free to leave with their grandparents. Please remind your students that if they have other dismissal requests, it would be very helpful to send those requests in writing with parent signatures prior to Grandparents’ Day.

Thanksgiving Food Drive

SJS Student Council is sponsoring a food drive to help the less fortunate in our community this Thanksgiving. The food drive will take place from Monday, November 12, through Friday, November 16. All food donations will be given to the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry at St. Joseph Church. Boxes labeled with each grade level will be placed in the gym, and students may drop off their donations when they arrive at school in the morning. Listed below are the categories that each grade level is being asked to bring if possible:

Pre-K & Kindergarten – cake mix, brownie mix, muffin mix, biscuit mix, cornbread mix

1st grade – breakfast cereal, grits, oatmeal, etc.

2nd grade – canned fruit

3rd grade – juice, condensed or evaporated milk, tea bags

4th grade – canned soup, soup mix, gravy mix, canned fish or meat

5th grade – rice, pasta, dry beans, instant potatoes

6th grade – canned vegetables

7th grade – sugar, flour, cornmeal, other baking ingredients

8th grade – canned fruit or vegetables

Each grade has been asked to bring food from a certain category so that a variety of items will be donated. If you would like to donate food items that do not fall into your child’s designated category, that is absolutely OK. Please make sure that all donated food is non-perishable. We thank you in advance for your generosity. May God continue to bless you & your families.
Thank you,

SJS Student Council

The Book Fair Is Almost Here!

SJS will hold its annual book fair on November 12-16, the week prior to the Thanksgiving Holidays.

Shopping times for the various grade levels can be found at SCHEDULE.

The book fair also offers a great opportunity for parent volunteers.

Traditionally, parents have been very generous with their time by volunteering to help work at the fair. We're counting on those volunteers again this year.

If you'd like to sign up for a shift (or two, or three), please check the survey in EDLINE for dates and times.

We do appreciate all of your help!

SJS/Papa John's Pizza Night - Tuesday, November 13

Calling all Pizza Lovers!

On Tuesday, November 13, St. Joseph Catholic School will again pair with Papa John's Pizza for the easiest fundraiser ever!

All you have to do is serve pizza for Papa John's for supper on that day. Whether it's pick-up or delivery, mention St. Joseph's when ordering, and the school will get a percentage of sales that evening.

Be sure to also mention your child's homeroom teacher's name when ordering. The class with the most orders will have a pizza party later in the year.

Traditionally, SJS has been the top school for sales for these fundraisers. Let's keep that tradition going, enjoy great pizza, and help the school financially - all at the same time.

Bonus - If you pick up in person, you'll meet lots of St. Joseph friends doing the same thing at Papa John's.

St. Joseph Catholic School will celebrate Veterans' Day on Monday, November 12. A short program will be presented after morning assembly at 7:35. Any veterans who can join us are encouraged to attend.
