DN 3:52, 53, 54, 55, 56

R. Glory and praise for ever!

“Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our fathers,
praiseworthy and exalted above all forever;
And blessed is your holy and glorious name,
praiseworthy and exalted above all for all ages.”

R. Glory and praise for ever!

“Blessed are you in the temple of your holy glory,
praiseworthy and exalted above all forever.

R. Glory and praise for ever!

“Blessed are you on the throne of your kingdom,
praiseworthy and exalted above all forever.”

R. Glory and praise for ever!

“Blessed are you who look into the depths
from your throne upon the cherubim;
praiseworthy and exalted above all forever.”

R. Glory and praise for ever!

“Blessed are you in the firmament of heaven,
praiseworthy and glorious forever.”

R. Glory and praise for ever!

From the Principal

Dear Parents:

Early indications are that the fair was successful and will net around $45,000.00. This is a preliminary estimate. Final figures will be calculated over the next weeks as all outstanding bills are paid. Thanks again for all the energy and work that was exhibited by those who made the fair a success. The fair went off without incident and the students in the school had a great time.

Even though the school is not in session, please remember that next week is Holy Week. The schedule for services is on the website of the church and school. Holy Thursday is the most complex and profound of all religious observances, except for the Easter Vigil. It celebrates both the institution by Christ himself of the Eucharist and of the institution of the priesthood. In this His last supper with the disciples, Jesus is the self-offered Passover Victim, and every ordained priest to this day presents this same sacrifice in the Mass in exactly the same way. The Last Supper was also Christ's farewell to His assembled disciples, some of whom would betray, desert or deny Him before the sun rose again. Services are at 7:00 p.m.

On Good Friday at 3:00 p.m. is the commemoration of Christ’s death on the cross. There is no Mass on Good Friday or Holy Saturday. Holy Communion is distributed at the Good Friday services.

The Easter Vigil Mass, which takes place after sundown on Holy Saturday, properly belongs to Easter Sunday, since liturgically, each day begins at sundown on the previous day. (That is why Saturday vigil Masses can fulfill our Sunday Duty.) Unlike on Good Friday, when Holy Communion is distributed at the afternoon liturgy commemorating Christ's Passion, on Holy Saturday the Eucharist is only given to those in danger of death, to prepare their souls. The Easter Vigil is scheduled at 8:00 p.m. on Holy Saturday. In the early Church, Christians gathered on the afternoon of Holy Saturday to pray and to confer the Sacrament of Baptism on catechumens—converts to Christianity who had spent Lent preparing to be received into the Church. That is part of the rite celebrated at St. Joseph’s at the Easter Vigil.

As Catholics we are privileged to participate in these rites that are rich in tradition, meaning, and grace.
