Student Council Fundraiser

Childhood Cancer and Leukemia Awareness Month

Leukemia is the most common cancer in children and teens, accounting for almost 1 out of 3 cancers. To show our support for Childhod Cancer Awareness Month, students will be able to donate $1 (or more) and wear jeans with a colored shirt tomorrow, Thursday, October 5, 2017. The colors associated with Childhood Cancer and Leukemia are gold and orange. However, there are many other cancers with their own colors of support. The money raised will go to Perry's Posse, a non-profit organization who will give financial, spiritual, and emotional support to children who are active cancer patients in the River Parishes. The organization began after Mrs. Ernst and Mrs. Curtis' brother, Perry, died of Leukemia in January 2014. Since then, the group has supported patients around Louisiana and the United States as well.

The Diocese provides these flyers for parents to review. The information on the flyer is set by the Office of Child and Youth Protection and changes each year.

Circles of Care-Students

It is required by the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People that all children enrolled in Catholic Schools and Parishes receive Safe Environment training. The Diocese of Baton Rouge provides such training called Circles of Care. This lesson will be taught to our PreK-5th grade students on Thursday, October 12, 2017.

The 6th – 8th graders will have their lesson October 9th, 10th, or 12th depending on their exam schedule. These lessons will be taught by their Religion teacher.

Parents may review their child’s lesson plan that will be taught in the classroom prior to this date by going to http://diobr.org/ministries/administrative-services/child-and-youth-protection then click on the lesson pertaining to your child’s grade level listed under Curriculum.

IF you DO NOT want your child to receive this lesson, please click below and read, complete, and return the 2017/2018 OPT OUT FORM to the school office in a marked envelope to the attention of Cory Pinion NO LATER THAN Thursday, October 5, 2017.

Tithing

PLEASE FILL OUT THE INFORMATION ON THE FORM BELOW AND RETURN TO SCHOOL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

Tithing

If the parent is a registered, financially supporting member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish, a tuition benefit is available to that parent. To qualify for tuition as a financially supporting parishioner, a family’s weekly contribution to St. Joseph Church should be a minimum of $8.00/week ($416 annually). These contributions are to be made in full by December 31, 2017. Contributions made after December 31, 2017 will not count toward tithing for 2017 and tuition rates will not be adjusted for the next school year (2018-2019). Regular use of the Sunday envelope is necessary as a sign of financial support of the Church.
