SAINTS OF THE WEEK
Monday, September 25th - Saints Louis Martin and Zélie Guérin
Louis and Zélie were married in 1858 and became the parents of 9 children. The home that they created nurtured the sanctity of all their children, especially their youngest, who is known to us as Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus (The Little Flower). In life, Louis and Zélie knew great joy and excruciating sorrow. They firmly believed that God was with them throughout every challenge that married life, parenting, and their occupations presented. Sts. Louis and Zélie, pray for us!
Tuesday, September 26th - Pope Saint Paul VI (6th)
Pope Paul VI was born in Italy in 1897 and ordained a priest in 1920. He was elected pope in 1963 after the death of Pope John XXIII (23rd). His greatest accomplishment was the completion of the 2nd Vatican II and the implementation of its documents which have become the Church’s roadmap since 1965. Pope Saint Paul VI, pray for us!
Wednesday, September 27th - Saint Vincent de Paul
A grumpy man by nature, Vincent became a gentle and loving servant of the oppressed. Born in France in 1580, the experience and needs of the poor turned Vincent’s heart and energies to a life of care and compassion. He died in 1660 and is the patron saint of all charitable societies. The Saint Vincent de Paul Society carries on his work in many parishes today. St. Vincent de Paul, pray for us!
Thursday, September 28th - Saint Wenceslaus
More than just a name in a Christmas carol, “Good King Wenceslaus” lived in the 10th century and managed to rule with a clear vision of what a Christian leader should be. Many opposed him during his reign, and his brother eventually betrayed and killed him, but he continued to hold on to his faith and is hailed today as an outstanding king in Eastern Europe. Wenceslaus is the patron saint of Bohemia.
St. Wenceslaus, pray for us!
Friday, September 29th - Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael (Archangels)
Angels appear frequently in Scripture, but only Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael are named. Each of these archangels performs a different mission: Michael protects; Gabriel announces; Raphael guides. Michael is the patron saint of police officers, Gabriel patron of broadcasters and Raphael patron of the blind.
Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael pray for us!
